A legend of a swimmer tells a legend of a tale about the first successful False Bay crossing, back in 1989.

While seven South African swimmers are set on to take on the Everest of all swims, the English Channel, one local man remembers the first time a European woman came out and swam across South Africa’s very own Channel – the daunting 34km False Bay.

2022-03-16 - Ft. Lauderdale, Kinsale, Wassenaar - Op de website van IMSHOF is de eerste nieuwsbrief van 2022 gepubliceerd. Daarin een link naar informatie over hoe je aan te melden voor de inductieceremonie in Napels. Deze wordt gehouden in het historische Castel Del Ovo op 7 mei 2022. Bij deze ceremonie worden onze helden Sharon van Rouwendaal en Ferry Weertman opgenomen in deze Hall of Fame.

The best histories are written by those who lived it.

Richard Broer of the Netherlands was recently selected as an Honour Contributor (Administrator) in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame in its Class of 2017. Broer joins a stellar group of swimmers, administrators, escort pilots and organisations that will be inducted and honored on April 22 in Windsor, England at the 2017 International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.

Zaterdag 29 oktober is ‘savonds de inwijding. Het lijkt op de uitreiking van Oscars … Prachtige hal vol met mooi gedekte ronde tafels. Jaap en ik zitten aan een tafel met iedereen die met pen waterzwemmen te maken heeft. Bet van International Marathon Swimming Hall of Game met haar dochter. Familie van Desmond en Chloe uit Australië die volgende week induceert wordt bij IMSHOF. Allemaal mooi gala aangekleed.

Voor Monique Blok-Wildschut was het afgelopen weekend er een om in te lijsten. De nu 53-jarige zwemster, die in de jaren tachtig van de vorige eeuw de uitdaging zocht in het marathonzwemmen en dat toen beoefende zonder dat daar veel bekend van werd in Nederland, werd in Santa Clara opgenomen in de International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF). Dat gebeurde tijdens een feestelijk weekend en een speciaal gala.

The 2015 Award Ceremony was conducted at the Doubletree Hilton Hotel, San Pedro, California. Ned Denison (IRE), was the Master of Ceremonies. Greta Andersen (DEN/ USA) received the ISHOF Lifetime Achievement award and Marilyn Bell accepted her induction into the Class of 1967. The IMSHOF class of 2015 included- Forrest Nelson (USA), Antonio Argüelles Diaz Gonzalez (MEX), Martin Strel (SVN), Marty Veen (NED), the Varne Ridge Channel Swim Park (GBR) & the Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club (GBR). Dennis Miller (FJI) was awarded the ISHOF Irving Davids/Captain Roger M. Wheeler Memorial Award. 

Als "administrator"

Marty zal de oorkonde, versierselen en andere prijzen die passen bij de eer in besloten kring overhandigd krijgen. Hij is een van de eersten die deze categorie opgenomen is in de International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame.
