A former Turkish national swimmer who was unable to attempt his previous plan to swim the 360-kilometer distance between the resort town of Kuşadası and the Greek capital of Athens due to several bureaucratic and financial problems is now preparing to swim from Turkey to Turkish Cyprus.

In his new record attempt, former national swimmer Alper SunacoÄŸlu will try to swim the 113-kilometer distance between Anamur in the Mediterranean province of Mersin and Kyrenia in northern Cyprus in less than 30 hours.

A WORCESTERSHIRE grandfather is set to swim the English Channel this weekend, four years after battling cancer.

Dave Granger, aged 53, of Norton, near Evesham, swam the Channel last year as part of a four-person relay team and set the British and Commonwealth record after completing the crossing in nine hours and 11 minutes.

But following a battle with throat cancer four years ago, Mr Granger now plans to meet his goal of tackling the challenge alone when he sets off on Sunday.

He hopes to raise £2,000 for Cyclists Fighting Cancer.

Zwemmen in Goes en Vlissingen.   Een van mijn eerste lange baan wedstrijden was in Goes. Ik was helemaal verkocht: de sfeer, de zon, het mooie aandenken (een zilveren gansje) en natuurlijk het zwemmen in natuurwater. Dus mijn besluit was snel genomen: in het vervolg zou ik in het zomerseizoen meedoen aan de lange baan wedstrijden. Heerlijk ook: niet hoeven duiken en maar één keerpunt!

Swimming for hours on end across 40,000 meters of freezing water is nothing to take lightly. Jason Lassen has been preparing for this challenge for over 6 months and is in his final couple of weeks of training. Not only is he going to cross the Catalina Channel, he is going to swim the entire way doing breaststroke.In order to swim the Catalina Channel, there are a variety of steps that need to be taken care of besides the grueling training. The Catalina Channel Swimming Federation needs to be made aware of the expedition. A representative has to be on site and help to facilitate the swim. No wetsuit can be worn. It has to be only you, your swim suit, goggles and pure determination to finish.

Santo Domingo.- 50,000 pounds of ice dumped in the Olympic Center swimming pool lowered the water temperature to two degrees Celsius, for the ultra distance swimmer Marcos Diaz to train under conditions similar to those he’ll soon face when he attempts to cross the Bering Straits between Russia and Alaska.

The crossing aims to link the Asian and American continents and with it conclude the Swim of the Continents, as reported by the Website I Swim with Marcos.com, sponsored by the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

De Amstel Swim was een groot succes. 72 deelnemers uit heel Nederland namen deel aan dit open water zwemevenement van 3 km door Werelderfgoed in hartje Amsterdam om aandacht te vragen voor schoon water en om het open water zwemseizoen feestelijk af te sluiten.

Volgend jaar organiseren wij op zaterdag 9 juli 2011 de 15e open water wedstrijd in de Afgedamde Maas bij Wijk en Aalburg.

Op de subwebsite staan nu al de bijgewerkte klassementen. Wordt het nog spannend zo vlak voor het einde van het seizoen? Met nog twee wedstrijden te gaan vraag je je af wie je nog kan inhalen en door wie je nog ingehaald kan worden!
