Hoe gek moet je zijn om de hele Rijn af te zwemmen? Duitser Joseph Hess (34) doet het. Zaterdag start hij in Zwitserland en 25 dagen later hoopt hij in Hoek van Holland te zijn. Voor de 'adrenalinerush', want Joseph zoekt naast zijn kantoorbaan graag het avontuur op. En als het hem lukt om 1.235 kilometer in 25 dagen te zwemmen, zou dat ook nog eens een record zijn.

Steeds meer oud-topsporters zetten zich in voor maatschappelijke doelen. Ook zwemkoppel Ranomi Kromowidjojo en Ferry Weertman. “Ik merk dat mensen sneller naar je luisteren als je goud hebt gewonnen.” Woensdag is hun afscheidsavond.

Naast de ASA (Amature Swimming association) is er in Groot Brittannië ook de BLDSA. Dat is de British Long Distance Swimming Association. Deze is erkend door de ASA. De ASA is de Britse tegenhanger van de KNZB.
De BLDSA heeft diverse belangrijke wedstrijden op de kalender staan. Ze zijn qua sfeer wat minder competatief dan die van de ASA. Een paar zijn internationaal écht wel belangrijk. Zo is Windemere ooit het eerste WK open water zwemmen geweest. Windemere wordt door de Britten bechouwd als dé voorbereiding vor het Kanaal (zoals in Nederland het IJsselmeer gezien wordt).

Almost everything that Wim Hof says I want to write on a Post-it note for future reference. Known worldwide as The Iceman, Wim is a Dutch extreme athlete famed for breaking a number of records related to cold exposure. He has accomplished extraordinary feats of human endurance including swimming underneath ice for 66 metres, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in shorts, running a barefoot half marathon above the Arctic Circle, and standing in a container while covered with ice cubes for more than 112 minutes. He has developed The Wim Hof Method which has featured in media across the world and promises to give you more energy, less stress and a stronger immune system.

Announcing my next swim challenge, planned for 13 July: the Bristol Channel (Mid-Channel Route, appr. 27 kms).
After the English Channel (2011) and the North Channel (2013) the Bristol Channel is the last swim I need to complete the UK 3 Channel Challenge. This challenge was until very recently known as the 'Original Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming' and was pioneered by such legends as Kevin Murphy and Ted Keenan.

2022-03-16 - Ft. Lauderdale, Kinsale, Wassenaar - Op de website van IMSHOF is de eerste nieuwsbrief van 2022 gepubliceerd. Daarin een link naar informatie over hoe je aan te melden voor de inductieceremonie in Napels. Deze wordt gehouden in het historische Castel Del Ovo op 7 mei 2022. Bij deze ceremonie worden onze helden Sharon van Rouwendaal en Ferry Weertman opgenomen in deze Hall of Fame.

A man has died in Wellington after swimming across the Cook Strait.
Multiple people and groups, including Wellington Ocean Swimmers, have posted online on Saturday saying the man, identified as Nick Hobson, died after completing the swim on Friday.
